More roses...

I don't know what magic I have done this year or it just the weather ???

Rose plants are growing, but they need close inspection as they were infected by Aphids last 2 years. When I planted them 3 years back I got some lovely flowers the first year but then I realized that I planted them in a wrong spot as we have a flowering cherry tree close by and Winter moth caterpillars on them attached my roses and alonf with them Alphids. Next 2 years they fought back as I tried neem spray. I hope I get some time to fertilize them and clean up the bed to enjoy them this year

Pink Promise

Roses are doing better this year, last year winter moth caterpillars started chewing the leaves and then followed by Aphids damage. This year timing for the winter moth caterpillars for our deciduous trees was almost on time and these roses got a spray too. Aphids are still around, but I am trying to spray some water and also trying to blow away the ones I see and roses are getting some energy to bud and bloom.

Surprised to see this black eyed susan is in bloom in snow and the rose bud has been waiting from a long time to bloom but the weather has not allowed it to come out....

Roses and Pests

So far this year it hasn't been a good time for my roses. In the early spring Winter Moth attacked them along with the other deciduous plants. We got all the deciduous trees sprayed for reducing the damage, but due to rainy days, timing didn't work well and caterpillars have started their work. After over coming this problem, I have seen some black spot on the rose bushes. Suspecting if this is a fungus I sprayed them with baking soda water. Now finally they have started growing and I see these tiny critters. After some research on internet I figured that they are Aphids which feed on plant sap. Today I sprayed neem-bon which is a organic spray for Aphids and other pests.

Solo Rose

I guess, this rose could be the last rose for this season, as there are no more buds on my plants and I pruned them yesterday. This wonderful grandiflora rose "Dream come true" (2008 AARS Rose Winner) is all alone in the vase but its soft rose fragrance is filling the air.
