Rescued bunch

Here are few pots which could stay in the basement for winter. Oregano in small pot is from this small survived plant. I hope they do well in the basement before seeing any sunshine next year. Other two pots are Mint and Jasmine (which never had any blooms so far).

Overly seeded Fenugreek

Somehow I didn't paid much attention when adding fenugreek seeds to this pot and the growth is so close that I won't get better harvest unless I thin some of the seedlings.

Introducing Mint 'Kentuky Colonel'

Last year's Mint plant did not survive as I couldn't get it to overwinter in the ground. I left the pot and it did not make it. Hence, comes this new addition. I do use Mint a lot in cooking and 1 pot is perfect for my needed.

Holy Basil a.k.a Tulasi

One of the many plants I always wanted to grow is Tulasi and this year I started growing holy basil or tulasi from seed. I am glad I have few extras to give away to friends. Tulasi is a sacred plant and worshiped by Hindus. It is used in Ayurveda for its medicinal properties. Its extract can cure common cold, stomach ache, etc. It is believed by Hindus that giving tulasi water for a person on death bed can raise their departing soul to heaven.

Oregano coming back

This year I haven't used oregano much all summer. It grew well and purple blooms have come and gone and along with them the whole plant wilted. But luckily from the roots new growth is coming back, I am glad I can overwinter this and get it again next year.

Has spring started?

Garlic Shoot

Glorious weekend and weather is wonderful both yesterday and today and feels like long awaited spring has arrived. I took a walk to see how my garlic bulbs and over wintered herbs and Spotted Deadnettle are doing. Oregano started growing and not much growth seen in Mint and Spotted Deadnettle. Garlic shoots are ok, but not sure I will leave them to grow the bulbs underground, as I will be soon digging this area for transplants.

This is the first time I am growing parsley, its considered world's most popular herb. So far I have used only in sandwiches, but planning to make pesto or parsley potato when its ready for ample harvest.

Fenugreek

Fenugreek in container

One of my favorite herb, I use these leaves in curries and in paratas. I have sown few of the fenugreek seeds I use for culinary purpose to get the plants. Check the small pot in which my daughter put some seeds.

Herbs & Greens

Left: Neon Chard Right: Baby Spinach

One of my plans for summer is to have herbs and a few Greens in containers. Can't beat the aroma of fresh herbs in my delicious meals. The home grown salad greens and baby spinach give a great taste to any salad, as they are organically grown and freshly harvested. My daughter learned harvesting the herbs one leaf at a time and gets excited to do so :). Some herbs are growing and some are yet to grow, they are in seedling state.
