Quite an eye catcher

Latest trip to Museum of Science->Butterfly Garden was quite an eye catcher. Main attraction for me was "Atlas Moths". I heard of them before but never seen them. When I entered the garden, it was hard for me to believe that these humongous butterflies were real, I felt they were some decorations or something. More than the view the facts were amazing too. They are in cocoon for about 5 years, but they live for week or so. As they fly and eat during nights and sleep during day, we were lucky to see then real close.

Seedling Update - April 10th

This year I am trying out some vegetables like okra, ridge gourd, bitter gourd etc. These can be sown directly in soil but just trying to have some head start on the process, so tried soaking letting them germinate a bit. In case if these seedlings don't work out I have some to do direct sowing

The seeds I started in march are with true leaves and may need transplantation soon.

Earth Day is coming soon

Jan@Thanks for Today is hosting a Annual Gardeners' Sustainable Living Project, in which she asks garden bloggers to share things we are doing or plan to do in our gardens to help the environment. I am joining in to share my thoughts.

I am starting the gardening year with a new addition to my indoor plants. Above orchid is a gift from my husband and daughter. I do some vegetable gardening without the use of pesticides. I am planning to use cow manure to my vegetable bed and would be feeding seaweed and fish fertilizer. Occasionally for controlling some pests I use neem spray and this year, I am planning to make some garlic and pepper spray. Big todo for the garden this year is mulching, this helps in retaining the moisture and at the same time gives a beautiful look to the landscape. We need to fix the patches in the lawn with new seed and as we don't use any chemicals to prevent weeds, I may have to add periodic weeding to keep the bad guys in control.
